Aldwyn Layne

January 25, 1932 — December 11, 2020

Aldwyn “Sonny Boy” Layne entered into eternal peace, on Friday, December 11, 2020, in San Antonio, Texas. He was the second of three children born to the Late William Evans and Mildred Layne in Trinidad, West Indies, on January 25, 1932.

Aldwyn loved his Baptist religion, family and friends. He was a strong minded and independent individual. While in Trinidad he was self-employed and owned his own taxi. He joined his wife in the United States from Trinidad, in 1973. They initially lived in the Bronx, New York and finally settled in Brooklyn, New York. While living in Brooklyn, Aldwyn worked extremely hard as a baker and handyman for a Kosher deli in New Rochelle, N.Y., providing for his family. He enjoyed listening to his favorite musicians such as Percy Sledge, Swamp Dogg (Jerry Williams), and Charlie Pride. Aldwyn loved to travel back to his homeland of Trinidad for all his vacations as he felt there was, “no place like home.” He loved his country unconditionally- “Trinidadian to the Bone”.

Aldwyn was immensely proud of his 7 strong willed and independent children, which he showed off at times. He always defended his children and grandchildren. All would agree when it comes to the Layne children, which was one of his ways of showing love.

In his younger days Aldwyn enjoyed playing football and baking his special sweet bread recipe. In his later years, Aldwyn, looked forward to his weekend breakfast with his good friends, reading his Bible, and taking long walks.

Aldwyn was preceded in rest, by his beautiful and loving wife Yvonne Pamela Alexander-Layne.

He is survived by six of his seven children with his wife; daughters Jennifer Alexander (Ronald) Nabors, Lithonia, Georgia; Ingrid Layne-Brown, Live Oak, Texas; Agatha (Everette) Williams, Kirby, Texas; Claudia Natalie Layne, New Haven, Connecticut; sons, Carl Ian (Johanna) Layne, Selma, Texas; Phillip Anderson (Vickie) Layne, Shiloh, Illinois. Predeceased son LCPL Hayden Junior Layne.

Aldwyn is survived by son Michael (Gale) Waithe, Trinidad; daughters, Hermin Williams and June. Predeceased are daughter Leelawatee “Darlin” Layne, and son Vernon Pancham.

Beloved Grandfather of Dawn, Keisha, Shameka, Michael, Alexander, Andre, Chad, Nikita, Courtney, Armand, Azalea, Rhoda, Brenda, Carol, Alana, Rollyn, Enoch, Brandon, and many more.

Beloved Great Grandfather of Tay-vonne, Minari, Thoni Alexandria, Akira, Brianna, Natalie, Alexander Jr., Tyla, Camren, Ronessa, Jordan, Rheanne, Asia, Reneisha, Noah, Ruth, Cataleya and many more.

Aldwyn also leaves a host of nieces, nephews (especially Timothy Andrews), cousins, and friends (especially Ronnie) back in Trinidad and in the United States.

He was also preceded by his brother Halmond Layne and his sister Sylvie Vincent.
