Amalia Luera

Amalia Y. Luera, age 87, of San Antonio, passed away peacefully in the early evening hours of Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at NE Baptist Hospital in San Antonio.  Amalia was born on March 3, 1932 in Falcon, Texas to the late Manuel and Adelina M. Yzaguirre.  Amalia worked as a beautician for a short time before found her passion and love of people working as a retailer in clothing and accessories.

Amalia married the love of her life and her best friend, Jesse Garcia Luera on July 7, 1957. Together they would spend the next 56 years raising a family and living a lifetime of memories.  Jesse preceded her in death on July 29, 2013.

Amalia was a long-time resident of San Antonio who was a devoted member of the St. Thomas More Catholic Church. In her free time, Amalia loved to crochet, quilt and cook.  She could handle any task throw at her as a mother and grandmother and enjoyed every minute she was able to do for those she loved.  Amalia will be remembered most for the love and dedication she had to her beloved family as a devoted wife, loving mother and special grandmother.

Amalia is survived by one son, Jesse Dale Luera, and wife Mary Ramos; daughter, Laura Santoya, and husband Raul; grandchildren, Jessica M. Luera, Matthew S. Luera, Elysia M Santoya, and Manuel J. Santoya; and by a host of other relatives and very special friends.

Amalia was also preceded in death by one brother, Humberto Yzaguirre, and by twi sisters, Anita Yzaguirre and Alma Y. Zapata.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, February 23, 2020 at ST. Thomas More Catholic Church. 4411 Moana Drive, San Antonio, TX 78218.  Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park with Romey Canales, David Guerra, Marcus Ramirez, Humberto Yzaguirre, Horacio Yzaguirre, and Jorge Zapata serving as pallbearers.  Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., Saturday evening with a Rosary service will be held at 7:00 P.M.  at Chapel Hill Funeral Home.
