Bertha Ann Lopez Acuña, 71, was welcomed into the arms of her Lord on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Born on October 20, 1953, in San Antonio, TX, to Severo and Esperanza Lopez, she graduated from South San Antonio High School before marrying the love of her life, Jose Luis Acuña. Their 48-year union was marked by unwavering devotion, including 20 years as a proud military wife. After her husband's retirement, Bertha pursued her passion for education, earning her bachelor's degree in teaching from Texas A&M University-San Antonio. She dedicated the next 19 years to shaping young minds and working tirelessly with special needs children, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and service.
Bertha was a kindhearted and generous soul who welcomed everyone with open arms and the comfort of a home-cooked meal. Her love for music and dancing was infectious, she embraced a variety of styles, with Motown holding a special place in her heart. But it was the lively rhythm of cumbias that truly brought her joy, as she danced with effortless grace and pure happiness.
Bertha leaves behind a legacy of love, cherished by her husband, Jose, and her sister, Gloria. She is fondly remembered by her sons, Stephen John Acuña and Adrian Luis Acuña, wife Rachael; her daughters, Krisna Jovan Acuña Dooley, husband Ian, and Lori Villanueva, husband Mario. Her memory lives in the hearts of her numerous grandchildren, as well as the many friends and loved ones who were blessed to know her.
