Bruce Bitney
October 8, 1939 — May 4, 2017
Master Sergeant Bruce J Bitney USAF Ret. passed away Thursday May 4, 2017 in San Antonio, Texas, supported by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer and its complications.
He was born October 8, 1939, in Bloomer, Wisconsin, the son of Raymond Bitney and Norma (Limp) Bitney.
Bruce graduated from Bloomer High School in 1957. He attended Ripon College for one year before entering the U.S. Air Force.
Bruce married Frances "Fran" Lijana August 5, 1961 in Chicopee, Massachusetts and they spent 55 wonderful years together. Of that marriage they had three sons, Michael John, Jeffrey John, and Bruce "Brice" Raymond.
Bruce spent a career in the U.S. Air Force as an Aviation Electronics specialist, retiring as a Master Sergeant after having served in various locations in the U.S. as well as overseas including Air Bases in Texas, Missouri, Massachusetts, Mississippi, California, Iceland and Okinawa, Japan. Upon retiring from the USAF he remained in Texas where he was employed by Fairchild Industries, Aerospace and Aircraft manufacturing Company in San Antonio. He served as a Federal Aviation Administration Certified Master Mechanic for Avionics Systems for aircraft manufacturing of commercial and military aircraft. After his second career with Fairchild he again retired to civilian life enjoying his retirement years in San Antonio.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 55 years, Fran; his sons Michael of San Antonio, Jeffrey (Merri) of Columbus, Georgia and Bruce "Brice" Raymond of San Antonio, his sister, Bonnie of Amherst, Ontario, Canada and her children.
Bruce was preceded in death by his mother and father.
A memorial service will be held at the Chapel Hill Funeral Home at noon, Tuesday, May.9, 2017, with Full military honors at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio Texas on Wednesday. May 10, 2017 at 1:45 PM.
