Thomas Carl Harrod (82) passed away peacefully with family by his side on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at Northeast Baptist Hospital.
Tom was born on August 21, 1940, in Kyrock, Kentucky. He was the eldest child born to the late William Harry Harrod and the late Othella Faye Crane Harrod. He was raised in Kentucky where he attended Litchfield High School. After graduating high school, he joined the navy and served valiantly on the submarine the Ethan Allen. During which time he formed lifelong friendships that stand to this day.
While serving in the Navy in Groton, Connecticut, he met the love of his life, Sandra Turano Harrod. They married in 1962 and they settled down in the New England area. When Tom was discharged from the Navy they moved back to Kentucky where his first child, Laura, was born. They ventured back to New England and Tom began working for Pratt and Whitney. Three years later his daughter, Melinda, was born, and they remained in Connecticut until their move to San Antonio, Texas when Tom got a job with Steve Sash and Door Company. The young family moved to San Antonio knowing no one. After moving into their home, they met their lifelong best friends Esther and Jim Clamp. Tom joined the JC Penney Company and worked there for 21 years, where he retired in 1998. What friends and family knew him most for was being the consummate handyman! There was nothing he could not fix or build and if someone needed a hand, they called Tom!
Tom was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 10181, he served two consecutive terms as Grand Knight. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Spurs, Dallas Cowboys, and college basketball, especially the University of Kentucky Wildcats, his dad’s favorite team!
