Erlin G. Mendez, age 95 of San Antonio, passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side in Adkins, Texas on Saturday, March 21, 2026. Erlin was born on October 29, 1930, in San Antonio, Texas to Enocencio Garcia and Julia Oliva Garcia.

Erlin was preceded in death by her parents, Enocencio and Julia Garcia; sons, Alexander D. Mendez Jr., and James Edward Mendez; numerous siblings and grandson in-law, Zach Gentry, and a great-grandson Ariah James Alexander Gentry.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mark (Donna) Mendez, John Mendez, daughter-in-law Carrie Mendez(James); and grandchildren, Alexander Mendez III(Jessica), Megan Mendez (Manuel), Marisa Mendez, Stephanie Chavez (Richard), Isaac Chavez, Dakotah Vidal (Julia), Vanessa Mendez(Michael), Carrie Tawill (Adel), Jackie Brooks (Jeremy), Pricilla Mendez, James Mendez(Jessica), Christina Gentry, Julia Mendez(David); 25 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Erlin retired from Kelly AFB after 25 years of services and then worked another 17 years with Davis, Cedillo & Mendoza Law Office. Erlin loved being a grandmother to all her grandchildren and it was always important for her to be with her family. She loved attending family events and going out to eat anywhere. She always said she was going to do two things when she retired, and they were 1 sleep until noon and 2 eat out three times a day. Her family remembers her as a very loving mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law. She will be deeply missed.

Services will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home on April 6, 2026, with viewing to be held from 10:30 to 12:30 pm. A rosary will be recited there beginning at 12:30 pm, with service to follow at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow after the service at Chapel Hill Memorial Park.
