Florerma (Rivera) Miro, 80 went to be with the Lord on Wednesday January 4th 2023, in San Antonio, Tx after a courageous battle with kidney disease. Florerma, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend was lovingly known as “Flor” or “Emma”. She was born on October 3rd 1942 to the late Roberto “Papa” Rivera and Eladia “Laya” Marcano Rivera both of Toa Alta, Puerto Rico.
Florerma was a fighter and a survivor showing courage and bravery in the face of adversity greater than many have ever known. Florerma was a native of Puerto Rico, graduating from the University of Puerto Rico with a Bachelor’s Degree in Bilingual Education and further pursued her Master’s Degree from the University of Texas San Antonio in 1994.
Florerma was a 1st grade elementary school teacher for Harlandale ISD for over 35 years. She retired in 2012 and began substitute teaching for NEISD until 2017. Emma loved teaching children and loved animals. Emma loved her cat Sammie and her dog Bobby. She especially loved birds and enjoyed feeding them daily. Emma also enjoyed traveling, playing dominoes and spending time in Vegas, Coushatta and Kickapoo casinos. She loved playing the slot machines, playing Bingo and scratch off tickets. She was also a wonderful cook and made the best Puerto Rican food ever made. Florerma was very proud of her family and treasured the memories they created together.
Florerma leaves behind her loving & caring husband of 54 years, Manuel Miro and her beloved children Sandra Suarez (Moses) and Manuel Jr. of San Antonio. Florerma is also survived by her precious Grandchildren Jacquelyene Anderson & Robert Anderson. Alexis Acuna (Hama) and great grandson Hezekiah. She is also survived by her brothers Luis Rivera (Blanca) and Thomas Rivera of San Antonio and Rafael Rivera (Norma) of Puerto Rico. She is preceded in death of her brother Roberto Rivera of Puerto Rico as well. Florerma was also loved by her many nieces & nephews, Lenora Sampson (James) great nieces/nephew Arabella, Madeline and James. Luis Rivera (Crystal) great nephews/niece Elian, Julian & Emila. Nephew Abnero Rivera, Samil St. Onge(Thomas), Griselle (Jaime) and Rafael Rivera. She leaves behind many good friends and faithful pets. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered in our hearts.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of San Antonio in her honor. We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude for all of the prayers, love and support we have received from all of our family and friends.
