Gary was born on May 27, 1966, to Joe & Phyllis Leal in San Antonio, TX. Gary attended Highlands High School. He received his GED and went to complete culinary school.

Gary is survived by wife Pat Ortega-Leal, daughter Jamie Galvan (Michael), sons Gary Leal Jr. (Barbara) & Daniel Sam Ortega (Cristina) 8 grandchildren, Aryana Lopez, Harvey Leal, Sophia Galvan, Nicole Leal, Malia Robles, Amelia Galvan, Aubree Leal, Ayla Ortega,Brothers: Joe, Aaron (Angie), Dede, Allen (Christina), and Steve. Sisters: Sandy, Joann (Johnny), Lena, and Nellie (Shaun). Mother-in-law, Mary Ortega and father-in-law, Tomas Ortega (Connie). Sister-in-laws: Annie, Diana (Robert), and Cynthia. Brother-in-laws, Ruben (Rosa) and Angel (Jennifer), nieces, nephews, & cousins.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Joe & Phyllis Leal, In-laws Casper & Tom Ortega & niece Melissa Ortega.
