George Chavez

On April 5th, 2025, the light on this Earth grew dimmer as Heaven gained an amazing and beautiful soul, George Barrera Chavez. George was reunited with his beloved parents, Francisco and Ramona Chavez, and brother, Juan “Chipo” Chavez. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of over 37 years, Dolores Chavez, loving sister, Rosalinda, loving niece, Annette (Daniel), brother-in-law, Arthur, sisters-in-law, Esperanza and Yolanda, and his children, Carlos (Amanda), Celina (Cathy), Belen, George, and Roxanne. As well as 10 grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and God-Children.

George was born on March 1st, 1953, in San Antonio, Texas. George attended and graduated from Harlandale High School, where he excelled in basketball and football. He held numerous welding jobs before he started his civil service career as an Aircraft Sheet Metal Mechanic at Kelly Air Force Base and retired at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City after 30 years of combined service.

When it came to giving help, George was always there when needed. He enjoyed and loved numerous activities including golf, bowling, dancing, and fishing. But barbecuing for his loved ones was the most favorite of them all. He was also a Good Samaritan and heavily involved with his church, St. Martin St. Rose PNCC, having attended over 20 years of his life. George was an amazing and skilled human being. Whether it be with cooking, repair work, or volunteering at his church, George was always first to say “yes” without hesitation. Which is why he will always be missed by whoever was blessed enough to have met him.
