Guadalupe G. Gomez

January 28, 1943 — January 23, 2025

San Antonio, TX

Guadalupe Garcia Gomez was born January 28, 1943, in San Antonio, TX. The Lord called her home on January 23, 2025, five days short of her 82nd birthday. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, David A. Gomez, Sr., her parents, Raymond Ledesma Garcia and Augustina Leos Garcia, and her brothers, Richard Garcia (2) and David Garcia (newborn).

She is survived by her three children, David Gomez, Jr. (wife Kennedy Gomez, children Olivia Claire Gomez and Joseph Alexander Gomez), Mary Helen Gomez Solis (sons Emilio Gomez Solis, III, and David Gomez Solis, III), and Mary Elizabeth Wehman (husband Victor Wehman, son Brandon Sherman Matthias Wehman).

Also surviving are her siblings: Raymond Leos Garcia, Jr., Dr. Pete Garcia, Oralia Rummage, Rosamaria Hanna, Daniel Leos Garcia, and Magdalena Frein. She is further survived by her godchildren, Teresa Aguilar Soto, Franklin Raymond Hanna, Jr., and Madison Gabriel Mitchell. She touched the lives of many other cherished family members, friends (*dearest friend, Robbie Hayes), co-workers, and the Army Residence Community members she served.

Guadalupe graduated from Edgewood High School, Class of 1961, where she met her sweetheart and future husband, David Gomez, Sr., with whom she attended the Senior Prom. She married her one and only true love on July 12, 1964, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in San Antonio, TX, and they remained married for 55 treasured years. She fully supported her husband for twenty-one years as his military spouse, ready to serve whatever his mission called for. Lupe accompanied him to Scott AFB, IL; waited one year in San Antonio, TX (first Vietnam tour); Kelly AFB, TX; waited another year in San Antonio (2nd Vietnam tour); KI Sawyer AFB, MI; Randolph AFB, TX; Altus AFB, OK; Grand Forks AFB, ND; and Zweibrϋcken AB, Germany. Upon David’s military retirement from the Air Force, they returned to the San Antonio area in September 1985, where they remained thereafter. David fulfilled his 1972 promise to buy Lupe her house in the new Converse neighborhood upon their return. Upon becoming Empty Nesters, Lupe began working in housekeeping at Comfort Inn, La Quinta, and The Army Residence (13 years). In 2000, Lupe sacrificed her career and retired to care for and spoil her grandchildren. Lupe also supported David during his 20 years of service with Fort Sam Houston, ISD.

Lupe was blessed with the gift of caring for others. Being the oldest of 9 children, Lupe was tasked with caring for all of her younger siblings. She went above and beyond loving and caring for her husband, children, grandchildren, and pets. They were always her #1 priority.

Lupe enjoyed her favorite past time-talking to all her closest acquaintances on the telephone. She was a superb cook, who could have had a top-notch restaurant!

Lupe took her role as a mother very seriously, raising her children strictly and instilling good morals, values, manners, love for the Lord, the importance of education, and the love of reading and music. She was devastated to lose her husband, David, in December 2019. Lupe and David’s greatest accomplishments and legacies remain: raising three college graduates, assisting in raising and caring for their grandchildren, celebrating their 55th Anniversary, and being able to pay off their mortgage before David’s passing. We can take comfort in knowing her soul is now in paradise with our Father God, and our Savior, Jesus Christ; she is reunited with her beloved husband, David, “for eternity;” and all her relatives who have passed away. May her memory live on in our hearts forever, and may we treasure the love she gave so generously.
