Howard Quinton

March 22, 1924 — January 8, 2018

Howard E Quinton loving husband, father and grandfather entered into eternal rest January 8, 2018 at the age of 93. He was born in Pipeline, Oklahoma on March 22, 1924,and was preceded in death by parents, John Henry Quinton and Ruby Button Quinton, brothers, Harvey, Harley, Johnny and Boisdee, sisters Opal and Juanita. He is survived by his wife Ethiopia, daughters Bissiret (Bill) and Julia (John), son Johnny, grandchildren Cantrell Chism and Dominique Gregory (Josh) Beau & Colby Starkebaum, Audrey (Jesse Bragg). Howard was a retired United States Army Officer having joined in 1940 and served heroically and honorably in WWII with the 191st Tank Battalion earning numerous awards including the Purple Heart, European Africa Middle East Campaign, WWII Victory Medal, Meritorious Unit Citation and others. He remained in Germany when the war ended as a member of the Constabulary Force tasked with Security and Civil Order. Following his military service Howard, for many years, was employed by Northrup Aircraft Company in the Middle East. After he returned to the United States he resided in El Paso before moving to San Antonio and working for Sears Roebuck.

Howard was a devoted husband and very close friend to many. His capacity toward caring and compassion for the less fortunate among us led to sponsorship of several individuals whose lives were changed through his philanthropic actions. Among his other charitable endeavors, he had a church built in Ethiopia, furnished roofing for three additional churches, ensured running water was available for an elementary school and was involved with other good deeds.

Weekends would find Howard performing maintenance on his antique car, a 1959 Edsel, and other mechanical equipment. An ardent racing fan he would take his grandson to the nearby raceway and also watch the different races on TV. Howard will be missed by all who knew him and be remembered for the great man he was. Rest in Peace.
