Ismael Cortez

Our beloved "Daddy," Ismael G. Cortez, passed away at his home in San Antonio, Texas on January 4, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mateo Cortez and Maria Garcia. Born in San Benito, Texas, he went on to proudly serve in the United States Army during World War II and was twice the recipient of the Bronze Star. He is survived by his daughters from a previous marriage to the late Elida P. Puente; Cristina Bonaguidi (Paul), Margarita Montemayor and Carmen Hernandez (Charles), to whom he affectionately referred to as his "Changitas." He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was a loving father to the children and grandchildren of Elvira, his beloved wife of 33 years, who precedes him in death. Visitation will be on on Monday, January 9, 2017 from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 7735 Gibbs Sprawl Rd., San Antonio, Tx 78239. A funeral service will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Tuesday, 10 January, 2017 at 10:00 AM, with burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Park.
