Janie Marie Dunn

We are profoundly sad to announce that Janie Marie (Engelking) Dunn took the hand of her Lord Jesus on June 28, 2025 following a leg surgery and a 24-day hospitalization. She was surrounded by her loved ones as she joined her husband of 63 years, Larry Andrew Dunn Sr. (m. March 16, 1963) (d. Jan. 13, 2020).

Marie was born October 8, 1927 to William Roland Engelking and Janie Frances Todd Engelking in Orange Grove, Texas, at home. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers William Roland (Bill) Engelking; Louis Henry Engelking; sister Lora Nell (Engelking) Bickham; and the lover of her life Larry A. Dunn Sr.

Her cherished family survives her. Sisters in law Alice (Pinky) Duncan, Mary Catherine (Dunn) Heye, Mitzie (Martin) Dunn, and her last living cousin, Corine (Engelking) Klatt. Her children Larry Andrue (Brenda) Dunn, Jr., Charles Edward (Laura) Dunn, and Sherry Melissa (Dunn) Powell.

She was the proud and much beloved Grandma Ree and Nonnie of 15 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Beloved and favored aunt and great aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

Marie’s fulfilling life began in Orange Grove, Texas, where she graduated in 1945. She went on to attain her education in accounting at San Marcos Teachers College. Her long and storied career began at Lack’s Furniture. She also worked at a bank, Alemite Company as Office Manager, sold Avon, accountant for Robert McAtee, CPA (San Antonio, TX), bookkeeper and office manager for her husband’s business, The Automatic Door Company, and finally for the Kendall County Appraisal District.

Marie and Larry spent their life together serving the Lord and mankind. They were home ministers for Cornerstone church and served congregants in their area and many more. They were blessed to visit the Holy Land and several memorable, and several adventures she recalled.

She shared her faith and love for Jesus wherever she was and will be waiting to greet you with a smile and a hug as she welcomes you to the Kingdom of God.

The family looks forward to seeing you at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Memorial Park and Crematory at 7735 Gibbs Sprawl Road, San Antonio, Texas.

Visitation with the family is Tuesday, July 8, 2025 between 4:00pm and 8:00pm.

Graveside Service Wednesday, July 9th, 2025 at 12:00pm.
