The Story

“Johnny Ray loves love – he just loves family.” Comedian, competitor, protector – this is the legacy of Johnny Ray. As son, brother and father, it was his huge, loving heart that defined him.

Johnny Ray was born to Judy (Torres) LeFlore and Johnny Andrade in Amherst, Texas and spent his earliest years in the small town of Littlefield, Texas. Judy joined the army in 1984 and together she and Johnny Ray set out to take on the world and found themselves in Washington State at Fort Lewis. It was here that Judy met Robert LeFlore and Johnny Ray became big brother to Steven in 1988.

From Washington State, the family set their sights overseas being stationed in Darmstadt, Germany where Johnny Ray would become the biggest brother when his sister Deanna joined the family in 1991.

Johnny Ray was the protector of his siblings. He felt it was his job to watch out for them and make sure they were protected. No one was going to mess with his younger brother and sister unless it was him giving them typical brotherly love.

From Darmstadt, the family headed to Ft. Bliss in El Paso, Texas and Ft. Ord, in Marina, California. In 1995 the family was headed back to Germany, but this time to Mannheim. John graduated from Mannheim High School in 2000. One of his favorite memories was his high school graduation. His mom advocated for him and upon his graduation was beaming with pride for his accomplishment. He lovingly gave her a simple rose to show his appreciation.

Johnny Ray was a true Redskins fan. His father, Robert, greatly influenced his love for the team and he bravely and devotedly rooted for them since his mother was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. Johnny Ray would often talk about how his father was the best cook and he loved his barbeques growing up.

In 2001 little did Johnny Ray know that his life would take a new path after returning to Washington State when he met Ayisha. A simple little basketball game would set him onto the path of love and his greatest achievement - father to his three beautiful boys. Ayisha was trying to play a street game of basketball, but her ball was flat. Another neighborhood kid went to Johnny Ray’s house where he told him a cute girl needed a basketball and the rest was history.

Johnny Ray charmed Ayisha with his humor and fun-loving spirit. He made her feel like the most beautiful thing he had ever seen, as if he had won the prize. Together they built their lives and started a family.

He spent the majority of his career employed for Aaron’s working his way up to regional manager. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family and looked forward to coming home to Ayisha and the boys.

As a family, they would have staycations going to local hotels with lots of games and family time. When they were home, Sundays became their day full of football and good times. Football Sunday’s were like Super Bowl Sunday every week. Ayisha would make lots of snacks and treats while they watched games together. It was like a big holiday for them. Sundays were their days.

Johnny Ray was a man of action. He showed his love with small acts from bringing dinner home for Ayisha after a long day’s work to showing endless affection to his boys with hugs, kisses, and loving nicknames.

Last year John moved to San Antonio seeking better opportunities for the family. He began to struggle with various health problems which ultimately took their toll on his earthly body. Despite his struggles, he devotedly loved Ayisha and his boys wanting the very best opportunities for them.

Johnny Ray’s laughter and humor will be missed. He always wanted to make everyone laugh. He was the big guy with an even bigger heart. His legacy is one of love having touched the lives of everyone who crossed his path. Johnny Ray loves love and our hearts will forever have a missing piece from the loss of his amazing love.
