In Loving Memory of Jose Vargas.
Jose Vargas, age 71, passed away on November 25, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Joe’s journey touched the lives of many, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of strength and resilience. He was an inspiration to all who knew him.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Lydia Vargas, his daughter, Karen JuVette married to Joel JuVette and their daughter Reagan JuVette, his daughter, Kayla Vargas, his daughter Andrea Vargas and her children Avery Morgan Vargas, Matthew Esparza and Maelynn Esparza and his son, Charles Vargas. Joe is also survived by his sister, Teresa Vargas Gonzalez.
Joe was one of 10 children to Fernando and Maria Vargas. After graduating from Carrizo Springs High School, he served in the United States Air Force for his country. Joe later retired from the US Civil Service at Randolph Air Force Base. He was married for over 50 years to the love of his life and high-school sweetheart, Lydia. He had seen her when he was just a young boy but didn’t get to actually meet her until a school dance. They were inseparable until the end, it was always Joe and Lydia.
Everyone who knew Joe knew how much he loved his muscle cars, from his Mustang to his Roadrunner and finally to his last dream car, his Corvette.
In 2017, Joe was given a second chance at life when he got the call that he was a Liver transplant recipient. He lived this second chance to the fullest by traveling with his family and friends. He was able to stand on the beaches of the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean. He traveled to California, Colorado, Arizona, Oklahoma, Nevada, New Hampshire, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Florida. The best trip he had was on a cruise to Mexico and from then on he tried to convince everyone he met they needed to go on one too. When Joe wasn’t traveling, he was spending his days at home most likely outside talking to his wonderful neighbors.
Joe’s strongest faith was in family, and so he reserved every Saturday night for his family and friends and their weekly dinners together.
May Joe rest in eternal peace, free from pain, and may his memory live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
The viewing to honor Joe’s life will be held on December 9, 2024, at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. If you would like to send flowers, please send arrangements in a vase or plants due to cemetery restrictions.
