Kathleen Rose “Mammie” Gerlach, 81, a wonderful wife and loving mother passed away Saturday, September 13, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas due to complications of cancer. She is survived by her devoted children: Eddie Gerlach (Penny) and her daughters Dawn Gladwin and Lisa Kirsch; her brothers-in-law: George Gerlach and Stephen Marr, her sisters-in-law: Josette Scodari (Joe) and Linda Marr; her nieces and nephew: Theresa, Katie, Stephanie and Nicolas; her grandchildren: Taylor, Tori, Adam (Ashton), Tiffany (Patrick) and Shaun (Kristy); her great nieces and nephew: Olivia, Celia and RJ. Her great grandchildren: Devyn, Logan, Lillyan, Landyn, Jazzmyn and Isaiah. She is predeceased in life by her mother, Josephine Makosky, her father Edward Makosky, Sr. and brother Edward Makosky, Jr.
Kathy was heading to serve the Lord until she met Ed at a high school dance in 1959 in Cleveland, Ohio. They married in 1963 after Ed served time in the navy then started their family in Cincinnati, Ohio with Eddie arriving in 1964, Dawn in 1965 and Lisa in 1969. She was a beautician early on, and worked at Anchor Hocking, and Eaton Corporation until she found her calling as a gerontology LVN. She loved her patients and the 11p-7a shift, continuing that work until she turned 81 in 2024. They also lived in Oxford, Michigan for many years until they moved to San Antonio, Texas in 2015. Many remember her for her love of pigs, cows, elephants, chimpanzees, any animal really. She loved having a swimming pool, although she rarely ever swam. She LOVED her basketball (Golden State Warriors and Stephen Curry), football (Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes) and WWE (Roman Reigns).
Kathy requested no service or funeral, but to be cremated and buried with husband. In leu of flowers, donations in her name could be made to your local “no-kill” animal shelter or any animal rights organization.
