Maria Garcia Cardenas

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Maria Garcia Cardenas. Known to many as “Our Sweet Yeya”. She departed this life peacefully on November 25, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by loved ones.

Maria is preceded in death by her husband Homero Valdez Cardenas, parents Anastacio & Maria Guerrero Garcia and numerous siblings.

She was born November 10,1939 in Agujita Coahuila Mexico. She lived a life bursting with love, kindness, and generosity. Maria was a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be remembered for her unwavering love, warm smile, tight hugs & kisses, her enormous faith in God and her compassionate spirit. Throughout her life, Maria was a healer at heart offering prayers to strangers with sincerity and grace, she touched the lives of many. Many said she was an Angel sent. She loved to Pray and Bless her family, friends and everyone she encountered. She was an empathetic woman always helping anyone in need. Maria prayed the most beautiful prayers to all, including strangers. She would place her hand over people; many accepted her prayers with an open heart and faith. Her greatest joy, however, was her family. Her love for her eight children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, was her life’s most treasured passion. She leaves us with many cherished memories.

Survived By

Maria is survived by her children- daughter Martha & husband Mario Garcia, Daughter Elsa & late husband Polo Ayala, Son Homer & wife Cindy Cisneros Cardenas, Daughter Claudia & late husband Cleo Walton, Son Cesar & wife Roxanne Cardenas, Son Uriel Cardenas, Son Arnold Cardenas & Partner Minerva Gonsalez, and Daughter Selfina & husband Raul Valdez. And was Yeya to grandchildren- Granddaughter Jessica & husband Frank Hernandez, Mario & wife Marisa Garcia, Granddaughter Michelle Garcia, Grandson Paul & wife Gloria Ayala, Grandson Anthony & wife Danielle Ayala, Granddaughter Natalie & husband Rudy Flores, Grandson Daniel & wife Crystal Ayala, Granddaughter Monique Cisneros Cardenas, Grandson Steven Cisneros Cardenas, Grandson Santana & wife Angelica Mendoza, Grandson Luis & wife Tiffany Mendoza, Grandson Cesar Cardenas, Granddaughter Stephanie Cardenas, Grandson Richard Cardenas, Grandson Jonathan Cardenas, Grandson Jason Cardenas, Grandson Alejandro Cardenas, Granddaughter Alejandra Cardenas, Grandson Peter Ortiz, Granddaughter Paige Ortiz, Granddaughter Angelica Cardenas, Grandson Andrew Cardenas, Grandson Nicholas Cardenas, Grandson Andy Valdez and Granddaughter Addy Valdez. Maria was blessed with an abundance of great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She leaves behind a surviving brother Ernesto Garcia and sister Micaela G. Rodriguez.

A Life of Love and Service

For many years, Maria worked at Finesilver Manufacturing Co. as a Garment Inspector. Her love of cooking homemade meals led her to work at Los Apache’s Mexican Restaurant. Eventually entering retirement to enjoy life. Maria had a passion for gardening. Her green thumb no doubt could revive a lifeless plant. She loved music and dancing and most of all loved cooking to bring her family together.

Her presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Memorial Service

A memorial service will be held December 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Memorial Park 7735 Gibbs Sprawl Rd. San Antonio, Texas 78239, where friends and family are invited to celebrate Maria’s life and join the family in saying “until we meet again”.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to www.dementiasociety.org/donate in Maria Garica Cardenas honor.

Maria’s legacy will live on in our hearts forever. Our guardian angel, watching over us. May she rest in peace. We love you Mom- Yeya.
