Rafael Torres-Maldonado passed away peacefully on July 15, 2026 at his home in Converse, Texas, at the age of 72.
Rafael was born on October 24, 1953, in Villalba, Puerto Rico, to his parents Juan Torres and Flora Maldonado.
He served as a Police Officer in Puerto Rico for 5 years, as Military Police in the U.S. Army for 25 years and as a Force Protection specialist at Ft Sam Houston for 10 years.
He enjoyed volunteering at his church, playing hand percussion including bongos and congas and spending quality time with his friends and family here in the United States and back home in Puerto Rico.
His warm and loving presence touched the lives of many people across the various communities he dedicated his life towards.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years of marriage, Betzaida; three sons, Rafael, Juan and Christopher; and seven grandchildren, Gio, Angelo, Elianna, Gabe, Juan, Nico and Luca.
Visitation will be held 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on August 3 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, located at 7735 Gibbs Sprawl Rd, San Antonio, TX 78239. Visitation will conclude with the praying of the Holy Rosary.
Funeral service will be held 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on August 4 at St. Monica Catholic Church located at 501 North St, Converse, TX 78109. Following the service at the chapel, the funeral procession will be escorted to Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.

Rafael Torres-Maldonado falleció en paz el 15 de Julio de 2026 en su hogar en Converse, Texas, a la edad de 72 años.
Rafael nació el 24 de Octubre de 1953 en Villalba, Puerto Rico, hijo de Juan Torres y Flora Maldonado.
Sirvió como oficial de policía en Puerto Rico durante cinco años, como Policía Militar en el Ejército de los Estados Unidos durante 25 años y como especialista en Protección de Fuerzas en Fort Sam Houston durante 10 años.
Disfrutaba servir como voluntario en su iglesia, tocar instrumentos de percusión de mano, incluyendo bongós y congas, y compartir momentos especiales con sus amigos y familiares tanto en los Estados Unidos como en su tierra natal, Puerto Rico.
Su cálida y amorosa presencia dejó una huella imborrable en la vida de muchas personas de las distintas comunidades a las que dedicó su vida.
Le sobreviven su esposa de 47 años de matrimonio, Betzaida; sus tres hijos, Rafael, Juan y Christopher; y sus siete nietos, Gio, Angelo, Elianna, Gabe, Juan, Nico y Luca.
El velatorio se llevará a cabo de 4:00 p.m. a 8:00 p.m. el 3 de Agosto en Chapel Hill Funeral Home, ubicado en 7735 Gibbs Sprawl Rd, San Antonio, TX 78239. El velatorio concluirá con el rezo del Santo Rosario.
La misa fúnebre se celebrará de 12:30 p.m. a 1:30 p.m. el 4 de Agosto en la Iglesia Católica Santa Mónica, ubicada en 501 North St, Converse, TX 78109. Al concluir el servicio religioso, el cortejo fúnebre será escoltado hasta el Cementerio Nacional de Fort Sam Houston, donde recibirá cristiana sepultura.
