It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Nelda Newsome, who departed this life on March 13, 2026. Born on February 22, 1934, Nelda was a cherished member of her community and will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family and friends.

Nelda was married to Bahnson Payne Newsome for 64 wonderful years until his passing in 2019. She is survived by her loving daughter Carolyn (Gaylord) Newman, her sons Paul Newsome, Stephen (Susan) Newsome, and Timothy Newsome. Nelda was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Nora Sattler, and her siblings, Harold Sattler and Eunice Gerloff, her daughter-in-law Darlene Newsome and her grandson Blayne Newsome.

Nelda dedicated her professional life to nursing, serving in numerous schools throughout San Antonio. Her commitment to educating children about health and wellness left a lasting impact on countless lives, reflecting the same kindness and devotion she gave to her own family.

A devout Christian, Nelda found great joy in attending church services and living out her faith. She enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting, and needlework, finding comfort and creativity in her hobbies. Nelda delighted in the beauty of nature, especially the birds she watched from her window, and had a passion for travel, particularly visiting national parks. Above all, she treasured the time spent with her family, holding those moments closest to her heart.

A memorial service to celebrate Nelda’s life will be held on [Date] at [Location], with visitation beginning at [Time]. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either the Christian Service Center of San Antonio or Teen Challenge of Texas-San Antonio in Nelda’s memory.

Nelda’s warmth, compassion, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
