Obituary

Nimal Edussuriya, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 22, 2026, at his home in San Antonio, Texas. He was 79 years old.

Nimal was born on March 23, 1946, in Panadura, Sri Lanka, to Adeline and D. L. Edussuriya. He was the youngest of five siblings to Piyasiri (Manel) Edussuriya, Das (Mano) Edussuriya, Lalitha, and Sriya (Marsh Dodanwela). Growing up in a close-knit family, Nimal carried those bonds with him throughout his life.

He attended Ananda College, Colombo, where he distinguished himself on the cricket field, a passion that stayed with him for a lifetime. His love for the game was evident in the many hours he spent watching cricket matches, always with enthusiasm.

In 1976, Nimal married his sweetheart, Krishanthi Kahawela (daughter of K.S & Winitha Perera). Their marriage of nearly 50 years was a testament to love, partnership, and unwavering commitment. Together, they built a life centered on family, respect, and shared joy. He was a proud and devoted father to his two children, Kushan (and Meghanne) Edussuriya and Dilshan Edussuriya, and a deeply cherished grandfather to Rishan, Eli, and Rowyn, who brought him immense happiness and pride.

Nimal’s professional life reflected his dedication and integrity. He worked a long career in the field of Accounting & Finance with employment at the American Embassy in Sri Lanka before joining Ceylon Paint Industries, where he remained until his retirement. He was known for his strong work ethic, quiet reliability, and warm relationships with colleagues.

In 2008, Nimal and Krishanthi moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he spent his later years. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—his wife’s cooking, spending time with the grandchildren, listening to oldies, travel vlogs, and staying closely connected with friends and relatives across the world.

Nimal Edussuriya will be remembered for his gentle nature, quiet strength, love of family, and the deep kindness he showed to everyone he met. He leaves behind a legacy of love, humility, and enduring family bonds that will live on in all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Krishanthi Edussuriya, Sons Kushan (Meghanne) Edussuriya & Dilshan Edussuriya, Grandchildren Rishan, Eli, and Rowyn, Brother’s in Law Shivantha (Thyagi) Kahawela, Lakmal (Dilhani) Kahawela & Venerable Lasantha thero.
