Norma Leticia Benites

June 26, 1964 — December 12, 2025

Norma L. Benites passed away on December 21, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on June 26, 1964, in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Her biological parents are Manuel Martinez Padilla and Mercedes Ortiz Cervantez de Martinez. She was adopted by Manuel and Maria de Jesus Ortiz Cervantez de Valdillez and in 1970 they moved to Lubbock, Texas. (Her mothers, Mercedes and Maria were sisters). At 6, she began to learn about Jehovah Witnesses because her mother Maria started to study the Bible. Norma started to study the Bible shortly after and then dedicated her life to Jehovah at age 13 and was baptized on October 23, 1976. In April 1985, her mother Maria Ortiz de Valdillez passed away. Norma experienced much sadness from this loss, but she always put God first in her life (Matthew 6:33). In January 1986 she found someone who would become her lifelong companion. She married Joel Benites on September 13, 1986. She was in many congregations throughout her life and loved every one of them. She always kept her focus on serving Jehovah and fulfilling her responsibilities as a wife. After 11 years of marriage, they had what would be their only child, Joel Nathan Benites was born on December 14, 1997. She became familiar with death because she worked at Guajardo Funeral Chapel in Lubbock for 11 years and worked at two flower shops for a combined 7 years. Her last job was as a caretaker for the elderly and disabled. Norma knew that her strength to live daily, face challenges and overcome obstacles, only came from Jehovah.

Survivors include her husband, Joel Benites, and her son Joel Nathan Benites. She has a brother and a sister. And many cousins, nieces and nephews and many extended family members. No funeral services were held, and a memorial talk will be on Zoom only, on January 24th, 2026, at 2:30pm.
