Obituary

Patricia Wilkens, born Patricia Ann LaRue, passed away on March 14, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 72, after a long and courageous battle. She lived life on her own terms, and those who knew her wouldn't have expected anything less.

Patricia was born on October 12, 1953, in Waco, Texas, to Joseph Eugene LaRue and Ola Mae Smith. Growing up alongside her four brothers, Eugene, Charles, George and Jonathan, she developed the spirited and straightforward personality that would define her throughout her life. It was always clear where you stood with Patricia, unfiltered and fierce. She never minced words, and the people who loved her treasured that honesty.

Patricia married the love of her life, George Morton Wilkens, and the two shared 36 wonderful years together until his passing in 2008. She carried the love of her marriage with her through the years that followed, never forgetting the life she and George had made together. Their partnership was built on devotion, laughter, and a deep commitment to family. Together they raised two children, and Patricia took immense pride in watching her family grow to include grandchildren.

For 26 years, Patricia proudly supported the teachers and staff of various schools within NEISD. Lastly, that of Theodore Roosevelt High School, where she became a fixture of the school community. Her dedication went far beyond her job description. She built lasting friendships during those years, connections that endured well beyond her time at the school. The depth of those bonds was evident in the continual visits and unwavering support she received throughout her illness. Patricia had a gift for making people feel seen, even if her delivery could catch you off guard, and people repaid that gift with genuine loyalty and love.

Patricia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Morton Wilkens; her parents, Joseph Eugene LaRue and Ola Mae Smith; her brothers Eugene, Charles, George and Jonathan; and her dear granddaughter Hannah Mann.

She is survived by her son, Steven Wilkens; her daughter, Raelynn Wilkens; and her four grandchildren: Marley Wilkens, Zoey, Christopher and Nova Mann who will carry her spirit forward in everything they do.

Patricia's family takes comfort in knowing she is at peace in the arms of the Lord, reunited with George and the loved ones who went before her.
