Rebecca Herrera Segovia, of Converse, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at the age of 84.
She was born in San Antonio, Texas, on January 18, 1941, to William Tell Herrera Jr. and Pilar Lopez Herrera. Rebecca graduated from Edgewood High School in May 1960 and was awarded a full four-year scholarship to Trinity University; however, shortly after graduating, she married Thomas Segovia Jr. on June 5, 1960. They were married for 27 years and raised three children:
- Thomas Segovia III, born February 19, 1961
- Carol Dawn Segovia Stallings Gamble, born October 16, 1962
- Judy Lynne Segovia, born July 8, 1966
After raising her children, Rebecca returned to pursuing her goal to become a teacher. She earned an Associate in Arts from St. Philip’s College in 1975, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1980.
She was a dedicated mathematics teacher at Marion High School in 1984 but later quit to care for Judy Lynee until she passed in 1986. She later worked for many years as an admitting clerk at Northeast Baptist Hospital where Judy Lynne spent much time during her illness.
Rebecca was a faithful member of Converse Baptist Church, since 1972, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for many years. She was known for her compassion and willingness to pray for others, often asking, “How can I pray for you?” Her faith and love for Jesus were evident to all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings Joe William and Kathy Hererra Bouldin; her children Judy Lynne Segovia and Thomas Segovia III and her ex-husband, Thomas Segovia Jr.
Rebecca is survived by her daughter, Carol Dawn Segovia Stallings Gamble of San Antonio, Texas; siblings William T. Herrera III (Andie), Linda Herrera Price (Robert), Martha Faz (Flavio), George Herrera, and Lucy Annette Herrera; six grandchildren: Meagan Rebecca Stallings Mayfield (Justin), Rachel Michelle Sargent (Brandon), Jessica Lynne Johnson (Dave), Morgan Rebecca Stallings (Doug Dupree), Michaela Rebecca Stanton (Kyle), and Amanda Cory Sloan (Lane); and ten great-grandchildren: Kendall-Lynne Mayfield, Coltin James Dupree, Sydney Rae Sargent, Briley Belle Sargent, Luke Aaron Dale Mayfield, Whaley Thaniel Sargent, Peyton Jaeden Dupree, Hunter Johnson, Brystyn Justine Dupree, and Maxine Rebecca Stanton — with two more great-grandchildren on the way, Baby Sloan and Baby Stanton. She is survived by many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, as well as her best friend of over 50 years, Dolores Cano.
Our greatest hope is that everyone reading this obituary would be confident and secure in knowing where they will spend eternity. Her greatest loves are JESUS CHRIST, her “Mommy & Daddy”, her children, her 6 granddaughters, and her 10 great grandchildren. We KNOW that we will see her in Glory, as we have all been raised with a faith that is TRUTH.
Do You Know My Jesus
Written by Vep B. Ellis and William F. Lakey
Have you a heart that’s weary, tending a load of care
Are you a soul that seeking, rest from the burden you bear?
Refrain: Do you know my Jesus?
Do you know my friend?
Have you heard He loves you?
And that He will abide till the end
Where is your heart O pilgrim, what does your heart reveal, who hears your call for comfort, when naught
But sorrow you feed
Who knows your disappointment, who hears each time you cry, who understands your heartache, who dries the tears from your eyes
Refrain: Do you know my Jesus?
Do you know my friend?
Have you heard He loves you?
And that He will abide till the end
