Robert Dale Gregory, age 72, of Converse, went home to be with his Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of Sunday, January 10, 2021 at his home, peacefully in his sleep. Robert was born on November 10, 1948 in a small farmhouse in Dimmit County, Texas to the late Billie Joe and Flossie Mae Rhodes Gregory. Robert grew up the second of five children. Robert joined the United States Army where he would see combat in Vietnam twice and serve briefly in Korea. After a 20-year career, countless miles and memories later, Robert retired as Sergeant First Class, Robert Dale Gregory.
On June 4, 1971, Robert married the love of his life, and his best friend, Kathleen Teague, in Austin, Texas. After what seemed like a brief courtship and wedding, the couple set off for life in the military, with their first stop in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Together Robert and Kathleen would welcome into this world two children, travel numerous countries and live many lifetimes of memories. Through 49 years of “I Love You’s” and “I’m Sorry's”, Kathleen and their family are left to cherish his memory.
Robert was a dedicated man – to his country, his family and his career. The example he paved for those behind was built on 50 years of marriage, two careers of 20 and 17 years, and a lifetime of examples of loving those around him. Following his time in the Army, Robert went on to work for T-Mobile, where he was a field technician. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and volunteering, specifically at the Attic Ministry of the Country Church in Marion. Robert enjoyed helping to provide food and necessities to those in need in Guadalupe County.
Roberts mission in life was clear and simple, make those around him smile. He walked his daily routine with a passion for talking to those around him and doing his part to make their day. In that, he never met a stranger. To those around him, Robert was larger than life, a real-life hero, who valued nothing more than time with those he knew and loved.
Robert is survived by his wife, Kathleen, of Converse; children, Makishala Michele Sanchez, of Bakersfield, California, and Robert Gregory II, and wife Tanya, of Cibolo; grandchildren, Ronald Leutwyler, Adriana Nicole Gregory, Jordan Leutwyler, and Cameron Gregory; siblings, Sharlotte Vaught, and husband Tommy, of Buda and Jeffery Lynn Gregory, and wife Karen, of Flemming Island, Florida; and by a host of other relatives and very special friends, including his dogs whom he considered his children.
Robert was also preceded in death by two brothers, John Franklin Gregory II and Michael Wayne Gregory.
