Robert Vernon Wilkens

October 12, 1949 — April 28, 2024

Bob was born October 12,1949 in San Antonio, TX to the late Robert Wilkens and Maxine Bishop. Bob passed away, Sunday, April 28, 2024, at 5:59am.   He was preceded in death by his younger brothers George and Raymond.  Bob graduated from Theodore Rosevelt High School in May 1968.  After his graduation he joined the United States Navy and served his country ranking Chief Petty Officer until his honorable discharged in March 1979.  He then used the electrical and leadership skills he learned to start a career in various companies where he could excel in his chosen field.  He eventually owned his own business doing all types of contract services and even opened and ran a restaurant with his wife Carolyn for a period.   He was most definitely a man who knew a little about a lot and a lot about a little.  Due to his health conditions, he went into retirement in 2012 to relax at his home in Canyon Lake, TX.

Bob loved the coast because it kept him close to the ocean.  Rockport, TX was where he would bait his line and open a beer then sit back and relax.  He also loved Las Vegas.  We can’t say it was to gamble as much as he just loved being around all the people and having a good time with a drink in hand.  When he was at home you would catch him watching an old war movie cooking or at the BBQ grill.  His amazing cooking will be missed. His time was also spent on the front porch growing his plants, drinking a beer while waving at the neighbors driving by.  He loved to tinker and come up with ideas on how to do something different.  One of his hobbies that drove us all crazy was keeping everything he thought was going to be useful one rainy day.  He thought a lot of things were useful and would never get rid of anything.

Bob leaves behind his three children Tamera, Tracie, and Robert.   They will be the ones to pass on all the stories and knowledge he has given us all these years.  He was married twice in his time.  His first wife Paula was the mother of his three children.   His second wife Carolyn also gave him a stepson Michael.  He lost his youngest brother George in 2008.  His other brother Raymond was lost in 2023.  His brothers were a very large part of his life and losing both was very hard on him.  He also leaves his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews to cherish his memory.

Robert, Dad, Bob was a smart, stern, and strong man who will be missed by many but will also live on through everyone he touched.

Even though we return you back to the ocean that you loved your memory will stay with us forever.
