Obituary

Ruby Vedagay (Gay) Havens Pectol, born on September 30, 1933, in Clyde, Texas, died on April 22, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas. Ruby married, Richard William (RW) Pectol, Jr., in September 12, 1953In 2007. She was asked by her daughter when she feels like a model of beauty, and she answered, "when I let my Christian light shine lighting paths of others in life's storm with kind, encouraging, gentle words and physical needs reflecting the light of Jesus Christ the Son, as the moon reflects the sun's light.

Education: 1950 High School Graduate of Knippa, Texas Student at Abilene Christian College in her childhood, Vedagay lived in various parts of Texas including Barksdale, Uvalde, and Knippa. At four years old, she learned to iron and helped her mother earn extra money for the family by taking in ironing. Vedagay's job as a farm girl was milking the cows, and she was a good student with the third highest marks in her graduating class from high school.

It was in Uvalde that Vedagay was baptized to have all her sins washed away by the blood of Christ. One of her last wishes was that the gospel be shared with any who would come to honor her or mourn her passing. Gay worked as a waitress while attending Abilene Christian College. She moved over 14 times in her married life with Richard, supporting him wherever he preached. Some of the places they lived are Saskatchewan, Canada: Kalispell, Montana; Show Low, Arizona; Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Claremore, Oklahoma; and Searcy, Arkansas. They lived in several Texas towns, including Fort Worth, Houston, Munday, Wichita Falls, and San Antonio. In San Antonio, Gay was a member of the Jefferson church of Christ and the San Pedro church of Christ. Through the years, Vedagay cared for and taught Tommy/Tom and Sylvia and other children about Jesus. In Oklahoma she and Richard hosted Gregor Mussler, an exchange student from Germany. Gay was also by Richard's side when he traveled and shared the gospel around the world. Those mission efforts took them on short and extended trips to Ukraine, Suriname, Puerto Rico, Europe, and other places. In Ruby's last years, relationships developed with caregivers who became dear friends. Those friends work at San Antonio's New Forest Haven Assisted Living in San Antonio, and they became family of the heart. Here is a final tribute from her daughter, Sylvia, "I'm glad you're my mama and that I got to start my life with you. I am forever grateful to you for teaching me about Jesus and for listening to me and loving me."Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her; Proverbs 31:28Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. Psalm 23:6.

Ruby was preceded in Death by her parents, Ruddie and Gladys (D'Spain) Havens; husband, Richard William (RW) Pectol, Jr.; sisters, Ollie Halbert and Edith Frahm; brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews; grandson; Jeffrey Lee Jinkerson, of Starkville, Mississippi
