William “Billy” Holbert, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, retired police sergeant, devoted Christian, avid gamer, and lifelong storyteller, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family.
A man of deep and unwavering faith, God was always at the center of his life and home. He believed wholeheartedly in Jesus Christ and spent his life sharing the Word of God with everyone he met. His faith shaped the way he lived, the way he loved, and the kindness he showed to others. He believed strongly in treating everyone with compassion, patience, and dignity, and he helped guide many members of his family to accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior.
He was married to the love of his life, Betty Ann, for 56 years, and though he deeply missed her after her passing, his devotion to her never wavered. Together they built a home filled with faith, laughter, resilience, teasing, and unconditional love.
A proud law enforcement officer, he served many years with the police department and rose to the rank of sergeant. Yet despite his accomplishments, he always said his true passion was being a foot patrol officer, where he could spend time with people face-to-face, building relationships and helping his community, one conversation at a time.
He was known for his kindness, quick wit, and ability to talk to absolutely anyone. His grandson loved to call him a social butterfly, which he loved. He remained deeply connected to those around him, often stopping in just to say hello and check on people. He left an impression everywhere he went.
In one of his more infamous stories, he proudly held the distinction of being the officer who arrested Ozzy Osbourne after the singer’s well-known incident at the Alamo, a story he enjoyed sharing with humor throughout the years.
Outside of his career, he was an enthusiastic lifelong gamer, long before gaming became mainstream. From Atari to Xbox and PlayStation, he embraced every generation of gaming technology with genuine excitement and curiosity. He especially loved sharing that passion with his grandson and spending time learning about new games, characters, and consoles.
He was also a devoted family man whose greatest joy was his family. He loved deeply and faithfully, always striving to provide guidance, support, and encouragement to those he loved. His family will forever remember his kindness, strength, humor, and unwavering presence in their lives.
He is survived by his daughter, Jeannette “Jeani” Walker; his son-in-law, John Walker; his grandchildren, Mina and Alex Walker; and his great-grandson, Calvin Stivers.
Though his family mourns his loss deeply, they take comfort in knowing he is reunited with the love of his life in the presence of the Lord he served faithfully throughout his life. He will be missed beyond words and remembered always.
