Norma Taylor

May 14, 1932 — January 12, 2021

Norma Rebecca Taylor, age 88, of San Antonio, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her family.  Norma was born on May 14, 1932 in Clyde, North Carolina to the late Bertha Estella Dixon and Benjamin Harrison Ford.  Norma grew up on a farm with her many siblings.  She was notorious for joking with her family that she literally “walked to school uphill, both ways and with no shoes”.

Norma married the love of her life, and her best friend, Arthur Brannan Taylor, in 1963.  Together they blessed the world with two children, traveled countless miles with his military career, and lived a lifetime of memories until his passing in 2007.

Norma was a self-made woman who excelled at all that she did.  In their young marriage, she worked briefly at a bank in Cutler, Florida where she quickly earned her way to branch Vice-President, the youngest to attain such a position within her company.  Over the years, Norma enjoyed preparing taxes and was a leader in market of sales with Avon.  Though her career was always in the fast lane to success, her favorite “job” was as a military spouse and mother.  In her favorite tour station, Hawaii, Norma earned the title of NCO Wife of the Year.

In her free time, Norma enjoyed playing golf, bowling and playing cards and board games.  Those who knew her best will always remember the love she had for her family.  Her favorite time was always spent with her children, grandchildren and any member of her growing family.

Norma is survived by one son, Richard Taylor of Columbus, Georgia; grandchildren, Lara Varcasia, and husband Joseph, Norma McCall, and husband Philip, Johnny Bradford, Jr., and wife Brandy, Duane Taylor, and wife Priscilla, Thomas Overly, and Timothy Overly; one grandson-in-law, Kelly Ayres and by a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and other relatives and very special friends.

Norma was also preceded in death by one daughter, Rebecca Meadows, one granddaughter, Martha Ayres; and her siblings, George Ford, Gilmer Ford, McConley Ford, Claude Ford, Ernest Ford, and Elizabeth Bowling.
