Richard Wood

August 12, 2002 — August 6, 2022

Richard Alexander Wood, beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend passed away unexpectedly on August 6, 2022, in Universal City, TX at the age of 19. He was born on August 12, 2002, in Portsmouth, VA.

Richard suffered from epilepsy since the age of 2 and eventually succumbed to the disease that he never, for one single minute, allowed to compromise his love of life. He had a most uncanny ability to always be smiling, and in turn, to bring joy to those around him; even during times that you would expect him to be struggling. He did not allow himself to be fearful of his condition. When an episode was over, to him it was over, and no more time should be wasted on it. He had too much else to do.

Richard was a 2020 graduate of Veteran’s Memorial High School and spent all four years of his high school career participating in Junior ROTC. He adored donning the uniform and deeply wanted to be of service to others. After graduation, he began college at Northeast Community College and wanted to pursue a degree in civil engineering.

Richard was an attentive and loving big brother to his three younger siblings, Casey “Bird”, J.B., and LoLo, who all referred to him as Bubby Richie. He was always happy to play and connected with them on such a profound level that only Richard was capable of. He was a trusted confidant, friend and often an accomplice in shenanigans to his twin sister Evelyn and older brother Cameron. :-)

Richard loved playing Euchre with his family and rarely missed an opportunity to attend family gatherings. He was constantly seeking ways to be helpful, and you could depend on Richard to always offer a  hand if you needed it. Richard was a shining light to all who were lucky enough to know this wonderful young man. To say that he will be sorely missed would be a gross understatement. The painful loss of Richard and his pure, beautiful soul has surely saddened his family and friends immensely.  However, his love will undoubtedly remain imprinted on the hearts of all those who had the privilege of loving him in return forever.

Richard is preceded in death by his grandfather Thomas Wood.

Richard is survived by his adoring mother, Stacey Baum, father, Jeffrey Wood, brothers; Cameron Wood, Casey “Bird” Baum, Gerald “J.B.” Baum, and Zachary Wood, sisters; Evelyn Wood and Lorelei “LoLo” Baum, grandparents, Gerald and Candy Baum, grandmother, Ruth Wood, Aunt Brandy and Uncle Josh Pelkola, cousins, Quinn and Peyton Pelkola, Uncle Shaun and Aunt Melda Baum, cousins; Jacob, Levi, and Yesenia Baum, and Aunt Katherine Nameika, and cousins Michael and Genevieve Nameika.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 13, 2022, until service time at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 7735 Gibbs Sprawl Road, San Antonio, TX 78239
